Project results on first international summer school “Innovative sustainable energy systems and energy efficient development” at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

Summer School Description
The first International Summer School “Innovative Sustainable Energy Systems and Energy Efficient Development” (hereinafter – the Summer School) taught in English was held at the Igor Sikorsky KPI on June 10 - 23, 2019 according to the order of Rector of the Igor Sikorsky KPI No. З/352.
The purpose of the Summer School is to improve quality of education, educational and scientific knowledge of students, development of their creative potential as well as the strengthening and expansion of relations between domestic and foreign educational institutions.
The Summer School was planned and carried out in the frame of the international project “Research Based Education in Innovative Sustainable and Energy Efficient Systems” (Project ID: CPEA-LT-2016/10044), which is jointly carried out by the Igor Sikorsky KPI (Ukraine) and the University of South-Eastern Norway (Kingdom of Norway). The project is funded by the Eurasia Program of the Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education (Diku).
The implementation of the Summer School was concluded by the Power Supply Department of the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management (IEE) of the Igor Sikorsky KPI and located at Borschagivska Str., 115, building 22, Kyiv.

Summer School Course
Summer School Course “Innovative Sustainable Energy Systems and Energy Efficient Development” focuses on study of existing challenges related to the transformation and decarbonization both the energy systems and complex energy systems. Course also includes basics of the research methods related to investigations of sustainable energy systems, innovations in the energy sector and energy markets.
The curriculum of the Summer School Course was jointly developed by teachers from the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management of the Igor Sikorsky KPI and the University of South-Eastern Norway. The curriculum was approved by the director of the IEE Igor Sikorsky KPI.
The English-taught course for full-time study was 135 academic hours, or 4.5 ECTS credits under the European Credit Transfer System and included: lectures - 36 academic hours; practical classes - 18 academic hours; self-study work of the student - 81 academic hours. The assessment method of the Summer School Course was an exam (test).
The e-materials of the course “Innovative Sustainable Energy Systems and Energy Efficient Development were available for students on the on-line resource of Google Drive.
The content of the Summer School Course is given below with an indication of materials prepared and taught in English by the Ukrainian teachers and by the Norwegian teachers.

Summer School Participants
The English-taught course was given during a Summer School classes by teachers of the IEE Igor Sikorsky KPI - Prof. Serhii Denysiuk, Assoc. Prof. Halyna Strelkova and Assoc. Prof. Myroslav Strelkov. There were also two teachers invited to the summer school from the University of South-Eastern Norway - Prof. Carlos Pfeiffer and Assoc. Prof. Ali Ghaderi.

There were 10 students in the Summer School whose participation was arranged and provided by Ukrainian partner university according the order of the Rector of the Igor Sikorsky KPI (Annex No. 2 to Order No.З/352 of 11 June 19). This group of the student included 5 students from Ukraine and 5 international students from Senegal, Iraq, Georgia, and Libya. The names of 5 Ukrainian students are Ivan Frolov, Vladyslav Usatenko, Yaroslav Mykhailiv, Ivan Lylo, and Oleksyi Yatsenko. The names of 5 international students are Ibrahima Dango (Senegal), Halbast Ali Mohammed Ameen Banaa (Iraq), Richard Sharadze (Georgia), Rashed Almabrok (Libya) and Bader Faraj (Libya). Participation in the Summer School was free of charge for all students.

 

According to the results of the summer course exam, 9 students from 10 were awarded by the Certificate of Completion about successfully completed the International Summer School signed by the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and USN.
